hi i was wondering if anyone here had any successful ways to breed crickets b/c i have heard a few but im trying to search out my options and the best ways that can multipy crickets. thanks so much
I'm not an expert of this but my crix have laid eggs, an i've read alot of info on this kind of stuff. I took some adult female and some adult male crix and put them into a container. With bed-a-beast as the substrate, and some food and some water sources in their. Keep the temp. up to at least 80, mine's around 92, this will make the crix grow faster and the eggs to hatch faster. Just leave the crix in their for at least a week, and remove the crix and just keep the soil moist and you get plenty of baby crix. The baby crix are to be kept just like the adult crix, just have no standing water in their becuase the crickets will die.
Hope this helped, if it's not clear enough, feel to ask more ?'s.
thanks so much... ive been told to do this before also... do you actually know which crickets are male or female, or do you just put in a large amount of crickets? also, will the adult crickets eat the babies? would they have to be moved once there are eggs present? so basically this is just like keeping a normal tank of crickets w/ bed a beast and heat right?
I actually seperate them, becuase I don't want like thousand upon thousands of baby crix. Just put more females in there than males, like 2 females for 1 male, and just add on to that. Mine crix eggs haven't hathced yet, but i've heard that they might if they get hungry enough, so either have alot of food for them or take the adults out. And yes it's like keeping a normal tank of crix, just don't try o put 5 dozen in some kind of container, because you will have way too many baby crix.
so how can you tell which sexes the crickets are? and by the way thanks so much for all the help youve gave thus far
Well that's easy. The females have a little like poker right in the middle sticking out of their behinds, while the males don't have that.
well so i got some bed a beast today and i have a dozen crickets in a small tank w/ lots of food and water and a light over them that im hoping will keep the tank warm enough... i still dont know how to tell male and female apart b/c all the crickets seem to have 2 spike things on their rears... but i was wondering how long will it be till i can expect some babies? will they be hard to find in the tank?
Sorry I didn't explain enough, I knew it was a little off, but I had 2 go. All of the crix have them 2 spike thing ob the sides of their rears. But the females should have a like a little spike sticking out in bewtween them 2 other ones. It is right in the middle of the rear. Also did you get the adult crix, they should have wings (full wings) on them and the females will have that poker thing on their ends just very long now. If they are adults they will probaly breed within a day or two that you got them. Just keep them in there for a week or so, and then remove the crix to another tank so they won't eat the eggs. Also keep the bed-a-beast moist, it's not very hard with the bed-a-beast, so probaly once a day mist it or maybe every other day it depends how hot it is and how it fast it dries out. Once they have laid the egg if the temp is about 90 degrees they will hatch from 9-12 days, if the temp. is lower it will take long, it shouldn't take though more than 2 and a half weeks to hatch. Unless the tmep is like 70 or below they might take forever and when they do hatch, they will grow slowly.
Also you probaly won't be able to see the eggs, unless they accidentaly get the eggs on the top of the bed-a-beast. They look like almost clear tannish looking things, like a stretch out egg sort of just longer skinnier.i'll take a pic of some of the eggs in my little tank that their in for ya.
Sorry it's so long, got sort of carried away.
thanks so much, that def helps
. i dont think i have adult crickets then... i got the small ones... not the large ones... so maybe these cant even breed at all?
Probaly not, you just going to have to wait till they get to be adults or by some adults.
Here's a good pic to tell what sex of cricket you got. The one on top is the male and the one on botton is the female.
