does anyone house their corns at room temps

janome Jan 17, 2005 08:04 PM

I've heard columbrids (sp?) can be housed at room temps of like 77-78 an still be ok with digestion, etc with out UTHs' or additional heat. I was wondering if anyone does this and how their snakes do at these temps. Thanks.

i dont agree with this. the only snakes that i know of that can be hosued at those temps and be fine are garters. even so how can you control night drops which are inpossible to control?

I don't use any UTH or any other type of heat. Sometimes in the evening when it is colder the temp will drop to 75 or so. It never goes below that. I know quite a few people who do it this way with no problems. That is why I decided to try it. In the winter like now, I use a heater and a fan to circulate the air and in the summer I use an AC. Of course if you don't have a "room" where you can keep it that hot, then you may want to use additional heat. I don't think I could handle my whole house being that warm all the time.

I do use a heat tape for the snakes that I have on display in my living room. Although they are rarely on the "warm" side.

We have a "room" that houses only our corns and beardies, that stays at about 80-90 even during the night without heat lamps although we do occasionally put space heater in the room for extra warmth in the winter

thanks everyone. i have 2 2 year old corns that have the UTH in 20 gallon long tank. i hardly ever see my ghost on the warm side but i've seen my amel on the warm side. so i got a baby zigzag that i'm trying with out extra heating. so far so good. she is eating and passing stools. that would be great if she don't really need the UTH's.
mine our just pets so they are in my room. each have their own setup. the more snakes that don't need additional heat means i can house more without the electric risks.
