If a female breeds without cooling...

Coldthumb Jan 17, 2005 08:21 PM

...then there will be no eggs, correct?
The question on my mind is why, will she not ovulate at all without a temp flux?.Or do the sperm the male introduces die before she can ovulate?
Ive also heard of "sperm retention" ocurring.Perhaps the female was kept a little cooler than average between seasons?

Any takers ?

I've known people that breed their balls and boas without any temp/light changes...they just put them together and they breed and the snakes take care of everything. So the answer to your question...yes a female can still lay without being cooled.
We seem to put so much stress on cooling and cycling...but really the snakes don't absolutely need it. It's their nature and they know whats going on in the environment without us trying to "trick" them into thinking certain things are happening. They'll breed when they wish...we can't make them....

i agree. there is very little change in their natural enviroment. and it does not last very long when it does change. mostly its a rainy season. i sometimes use a spray bottle and mist the snakes to try and simulate this. i appears to work but then it works when i just put them together as well. if they are ready, mature and proper size, they naturally want to mate. thanks, tim
