Thermal Air Hovabator Questions

MultipleMorphHerps Jan 17, 2005 09:00 PM

If you have used a hovabator for your eggs, please help.

I have 2 thermal air hovabators that I am trying to get to the right temp for incubation, how did you accomplish this task? Did you use a thermostat/rheostat, if so what brand/model?

Thanks

Tyler

Have only been breeding for a short time so Iam sure there are others here that could give more technical info. But what I did was bought a hovabator (the model with a fan) which I have since learned that most people do not like. Anyway had four eggs laid late in the season and all were successful hatchings. I have since bought the regular thermal air flow model but have not had a chance to use it yet, just started introducing the breeders this month. The way I calibrated mine was to get a cheap digital thermometer from petsmart one with a probe (cost about $12.00 bucks or so) If I remember right. Ran the probe into the incubator, put lid back on and then watched temp. for about 24 hours or so and adjusted the incubator accordingly. I did seem to have some problems with the temp. drifting a degree or two but I dont know if that was in part due to the fan kicking on or the cheapness of my thermometer. Hope this helps Gadzooks
