How much do they eat?

mcompton1973 Jul 04, 2003 11:35 PM

ok, I have 4 cresteds. I have had them a couple of weeks. they are babies. I have them in a 20 tall with some soil and live plants. Nothing too fancy...but a lil naturalistic. Here is my prob. I am putting out babyfood (peach) and some lil crickets. They are not really going after the crickets, and alot of times it doe s not look like they are really eating the baby food. Do they just eat so little that it can be hard to notice? They seem a little thin maybe....but not skinny at all. How much should they be eating? with crickets....should they be going after tham like my beardie does? becuause they really dont. I put some crickets in there...and for the longest time I did not think any were being eaten....now there are none...so they either died or got eaten...I am not sure.

Any help/advise please?

Crested geckos typically are ravenous feeders, esp the females. My adults get 4-5 crix every other day and fruit once a week if that. They could def eat more but they would seriously get overweight. Geckos under a year I feed every day around 5-10 crix, sometimes even twice a day. I think the reason why your guys are not eating as much as they should is simply their cage is too big. Basically they are having a hard time finding food. I highly recommend housing them separately in small plastic cages (see pic). This way food and water are easily found and there is no competition from siblings. Once they get older and are sexable you may pair them up if you wish or remain to keep them singly, which I prefer. Best of Luck.
