adult male hisses before eating

nogard Jan 17, 2005 10:13 PM

I have a three and a half foot male ball, and it is the weirdest thing I have ever seen. When offered mice he hisses and srikes, but never takes, when offered a rat he takes it with no problem, he has a bite scar on his back, can he be associating the scent of mice with pain? I can reach in his tank, pick him up and hold him for an hour straight with no problems at all.
thanks

I'm not really sure of the reason he hisses at the mice, but my balls are particular about the size of the prey item. They won't take anything smaller then a good sized gerbil or medium/small rat. Smaller than that and they will strike at it to drive it off, but won't attempt to eat it. Hope this helps some.
