i have a couple of questions,, like always ^_^
i'm heading to a reptile expo in western toronto, and i'm wondering if anyone has any idea if i'll be able to find cresteds there. I don't know how popular or wide spread they are as i've only ever seen one in a pet store once.
I'm trying to get a breeding trio, but i'm guessing that if they have cresteds their going to be pretty young and non sexed. Is there any way to tell what sex they are when they're young because it would really suck to buy three then have to sell one becuase i end up with two males, or worse sell two because i have three males. And if i buy three, and by shear luck get 1 male and two females, can they be housed together? Is male aggression an issue if they're the same size, and have grown up together?

male agression in my experience has not been an issue if kept in a large enough enclosure and separate feeding methods are used. also if multiple females are in the enclosure that will sometimes help. just to be on the safe side i now keep mine in separate enclosures and am speaking of past experiences.

Ok my tank is a 33gal. is that big enough. if not would small critter keepers work as i have limited extra space

That sounds big enough if you have lots of vines and cork tubes and other hiding places, but keep a sharp eye out. I had 3 youngsters housed together once in a 10 gallon, and 1 chewed the tips off the tails of the other 2. The "chewer" grew up to be a male, and of the "chewees", 1 male & 1 female. I never keep mine together past about 3 months of age anymore because of it. Anyway, juvie males are as obnoxious around juvie females as teenaged boys around teenaged girls!

I have about 4 5gal tanks available. Is this good enough to house them individually? And for how long? How big/old do they have to be before i can house them together?

Depending upon how young/small they are, that would be ok for awhile, but I have my juvies individually in 10's with a lot of vines and furniture (cork tubes, slabs & branches) until they have some real size to them when I move them up to 20's or better. You can't put them together again until they are mature so you can be sure not to house 2 males together. Several young females might be kept together once you are positive that they ARE females but not with a male until they are at least a year and 35 grams. It is too hard on females too young to breed to be harassed by males. No one should be in such a big hurry for eggs that they will risk the health and well-being of their stock.

I would never want to harm them, that's why i ask ^_^
Might they be able to stay in a 5gal each till they're old enough?, i only have one 10gal available, but i have lots of 5's and would rather not go and buy 2 new 10's with lids if i really don't have to.

I wish I could answer that. I don't have any 5's unless they are equivalent to a large kritter keeper, and only young hatchlings are kept in those. It might be worth it to check out "Goodwill" or "St. Vincent de Paul" for used tanks of 10 or 15 gal size and sanitize very well. You can get a used tank for a couple of bucks, and large pet supply houses sell mesh lids for about 10 bucks, or you can make one out of an old screen window. I guess you'll have to do what makes sense to you. Just monitor their progress since animals kept in enclosures that are too small for them will also be stressed by that. Think about what their lives would have been like out in the treetops of New Caledonia! Good luck! I have posted some pics of my enclosures today (see above). Even babies get logs, branches and vines.

5 gal. would be more than adequate for the first 2-3 months. after that you will want to move them up to something bigger.
i would also say you could put 1-3 juveniles in a 5 gallon together.

When are babies ready for sale? I might be able to sell them to a large chain of pet stores that i work at, so there might always be a reasonable market. Hopefully ^_^. although if i can't find them homes i will find a way to house them comfortably. What is the usual demand>? i know there are alot of breeders here, and i'm guessing that's due to the ease of procreation? How long do you generally have ur babies for?
