Decreased Sex Drive in Male BD - How do I make him a MAN again?

Thera Jan 17, 2005 11:52 PM

I have a almost 2 year old male who this fall easily fathered 2 clutches that has suddenly lost his sex drive. Before I would let him out of the cage and he'd bob back at mals he'd see in their cages bobbing, now he waves at them. He doesn't mate with any of my females. On the rare occassion he "goes after" one of them its as if he gets distracted and forgets what he was doing jsut as he gets over to the female (you know how they do it) leep, display, grab neck... well he grabs or at least will try and then his mind goes somewhere else and he wanders away. Females behavior is that of fairly receptive, she doesn't even fight him at all. But he loses interest. Other females don't even entise him at all.

So... how do I get his MANLINESS back? Any ideas?

You could try putting him into a shortened brumation. After brumation their sex drive BOOSTS and their hormones increase. Good luck!

We use a second male to cause competition (we have one room where we can let dragons roam free under supervision). They will go into a display mode with each other. We then pull the unwanted male out and now usually the male will mate with the nearest female. You need to pay attention to the two males as they can physically fight and you need to be able to pull them apart before they come in contact with each other.

Another thing you can do is seperate the male and female for a few weeks. Then rearrange the furniture completely in one tank and re-introduce them.
