kinked tails...genetic? temp?--important please read

restlesswind444 Jan 18, 2005 12:23 AM

ok so, we all know that there are MANY leos out there in people's collections, breeding groups, and even for sale, with slight, to moderate, to severe kinks in the tips of their tails. sometimes these kinks are blatantly obvious and sometimes it is rather discreet. does anyone know the story about these geckos...is the kink genetic? is it related to incubation temperatures? is it bad to breed a gecko if it has only a slight kink in its tail? i know there is limited knowledge about this but people's opinions will be valueable.

Yes, its genetic. Mostly from inbreeding. Thats why you see "Slightly Kinked Tail" next to the pictures of geckos for sail. They are cheaper, but its a negative trait.

I would not buy one for breeding, only for a pet.
