question for an experienced breeder

rwoodyer Jan 18, 2005 09:57 AM

When you put two snake together to breed, is it better to remove their hides even if they are used to them. Is a 50 gallon tank better or worse for breeding than a sterilite tub in a rack? Should I take the hides away before putting the snakes together, so they can get used to it? I was just wondering since I always see pictures of snakes breeding in a tub with no hides and I think I read somewhere once that no hides works better

Thanks

The hide boxes should not make a difference in the breeding efforts of your balls. We breed everything in Freedom Breeder rack and some have hide boxes and some do not. Sometimes just the darkness of a hidebox is just what the Dr. ordered for a happy pair of pythons. A good place to hide when breeding is always beneficial when using an aquarium as a home for any reptile. The reduces the stress load on the animal as people walk by or stop to take a look. The tank size sounds good to me. I would not go much bigger though. IMPO

Thanks,
Wyatt

I don't have hide boxes in with my breeders but thats more for me then for them, I like to be able to just open the drawer and see if they are breeding or not. I wouldn't imagine that it makes a lot of difference to them. If they feel the need to hide they just slip under the paper anyway.
