The SWEET PICKLE take on the new forum format...

Sweet_Pickle Jan 18, 2005 12:35 PM

I liked the old way better. It's gonna take me 1/2 hour extra every day to sift through everyone's business.

Oh well, I guess I will adapt.

>>RE: Peter it was obviously done to gather more sponsor$$

Hi Bob,

Could be. but so far all the current sponsors appear as sponsors on the subforums too. So...

(As a user though I'm not fond of the division either, just seems to make more work for us. But if participation increases and each of those subforums has enuff activity to keep a visitor occupied for a while, then it'll turn out to be a good decision. I'll reserve judgement: I'm remembering that there was a time when there were only fourteen, i think, forums on kingsnake TOTAL!)

peace out
td

as long as we have a few places to feed our kingsnake passions. Nobody likes change, I'm sure we will all get used to it untill the next change comes along.

You're right about having the same sponsors, but it looks like there is ample room for more sponsors in the future which, from the managements perspective, is increased potential for profit. It doesn't get more American than that.

Not me, because I'm choosing to NOT spend the extra 1/2 hour and chase everyone's posts.

Too bad. People are going to post some nice pics now, ALL OVER the place and those pics will GET LESS VIEWS.

www.faunaclassifieds.com.

MUCH better forums and better format. All it needs is the traffic of KS. I know a few of us over there already. I'm sure I'll see more. Peace! Matt

I like the seperate sub forums. How did the Cornsnake and Ratsnake people get along on 2 different forums ??? Why would you spend 15 minutes searching forums ? It takes like 3 seconds to look at the days post. If its something you are following you know right were it is, right ? Anyway I remember when these forums changed to this format not tto long ago and everyone was [bleep]in' about it now they love this format and dont want change lol . Give it a shot before you knock it and I mean longer than the 2 days this has been up.

You might actually like it! Then again, you might hate it!
I might even hate it too, but I won't know until I try and see what happens and if it's worth it . . . Give it a little time, it (sub-forum) is still in it's infamacy.

I guess I was a little frustrated at the time but I really have no right or reason right now to complain! I'll see ya around here, but encourage others to stop over at the Fauna site too ..... it's a nice community.

I think people should be able to go wherever they want. And I'm not thrilled by the changes right now either.

But if you thought the other place was better, why'd you hung around here and contribute to this group?

I have a daughter in high school. Periodically, there's a girl who's a part-of-the-group, and then something happens she's not entirely satisfied with, and suddenly that girl's sniping at the old group and encouraging everyone to hang out with HER new group instead. Maybe the girl's insecure and can only feel good if her choices are validated by others, I dunno. I never know how to explain it to my daughter.

Sorry, i got off track.

Back to the subject at hand, I'm not entirely happy with the added sub-forums either. But i do hope that people who choose to spend their time elsewhere don't feel the need to drag things down here, a place some others have enjoyed and are continuing to enjoy. It's a big world. Let's not knock each other's preferences, just live and let live.

peace

I agree with you. I should have gone about expressing my opinion a little different, made it look like I was just b****in'.

BUT .... I'm just expressing my opinions. Not looking to "jump around" to best serve myself. Just the opposite in fact - I'm thinking of the forum community as a whole and especially new-comers who are probably going to be confused and also miss a lot of views with their often "critical" problems.

I guess I am a little upset that there wasn't a poll conducted by the moderators ... if I missed it, I must be an idiot 'cause I stop by the forum once or twice a day.

Also, try surfing all the forums on a dial-up connection - you'll get a bit frustrated too!! That's my problem though, and only temporary thankfully!! See ya around - Matt

as I mentioned in an earlier thread...

I too am on dial up.

I am also using AO(hell)L, version 5.0 .- ancient compared to the more recent 9.0 - so some could argue I'm in a worse position still (just for the AOL factor).

I am doing everything I can to make the subforums work for everyone - including the dial up users. Just like I did when these 'new forums' first came out 2 years ago, I've been doing my best to break things here so that I can find glitches and problems before everyone else (otherwise we'd be hearing those screams too) and have been asking for alterations and additions to make the forums/subforums better. I am sure the tech person probably cringes with each new email I send him and I must say he's been doing a damn good job at fixing as many of the little and big things I tell him about as quickly as he possibly can.

Unlike the general users of this site or most of the moderators for that matter that only have a select few forums they keep up with -- I now have well over 325 individual forums/subforums that I have to keep track of between kingsnake.com, kingsnake.ca, kingsnake.co.uk, insecthobbyist.com and exotichobbyist.com. That is a number that is going to go higher still. You can be sure that I of all people want the ability to navigate and search the forums as quickly and efficiently as possible at a moments notice when I need to.

....and remember I am doing all this while still on dial up.

Perhaps you never chose to learn to use the nice little feature called "Today's Posts" that lets you bulk search the forums for any new posts made within a certain time frame in one fell swoop - you can search an entire catagory like all the snake forums or you can select up to 5 individual forums to search.

If it's possible to use the Today's Post feature to search the general kingsnake forum and all its subforums for any new posts in bascially one click of the button... how is it going to be harder for someone to find/see all those nice pics?

May I suggest starting a new thread on all the forums with your comment about the "todays posts" feature? I myself visit this site several times a day and somehow overlooked that option. I am also on dial up and my computer is not very fast in general so I for one am going to give your suggestion a shot. Sometimes people miss things that are right in front of them due to being set in a routine, please give my suggestion a try. It may make some people want to stick around. Thanks Tom Stevens

It's kind of hard to have to spend more time doing something you regularly do already if nothing new or in excess of the average norm is being generated. Do I have that right?

If it's gonna take you a 1/2 hour extra every day to go through the forums ...then that must mean... there are *more* posts being made by folks that weren't being made before. More people posting means more community involvement which means more information is being passed between people. How is this is a bad thing?

Would you still find fault with more posts being generated if it was *just* on the general kingsnake forum ? or is it because it's possible that potential fault lays in the fact that new posts are certainly going to occur not only on the main forums but the subforums now?
