boastud Jan 18, 2005 01:03 PM

I recieved female albino August 13th 2004. She was 11 months old. Once she passed the 12 month mark, i started feeding her pretty regulary. Here she is the day I got her on August 13th.

Hi there, your pics show some amazing growth, but I have to ask... what is a 'regular' feeding schedule for you?

By the looks of that second pic, it looks like you are 'keeping' her 'stuffed to the gills' ?!

Thanks much, Joe

2 med/lg f/t rats every 5-7 days.

Definately way too much. I would feed her one appropriately sized food item every 10-14 days at that age. Not to sound mean or anything, but if you keep up that feeding schedule, your girl won't make it past her 5th birthday.

Everything i have heard was to take it slow the first year, then if is ok to up the food intake. She has extreme muscle mass, not a blob by any means.

Boas have smaller, more sensitive stomachs than pythons do.
I don't feed my 2 year olds that much!!
A yearling boa (in my collection) would be eating something like one small rat every 7-10 days for growth (females), and one small every 14 days for maintenance (males).

I have 2 yearling boas out of approximately 20-25 that can take medium rats.. and it is ONE, every 7-14 days, depending..

Feeding her TWO medium OR Large rats is just REALLY asking for trouble, in my opinion.

Last time I saw something like that, the snake ate the food just fine.. and then the skin on her sides and back TORE OPEN !!!
She literally had tears along her back, and gashes along her sides. She was dead the next day.

I'm not saying it is impossible, but I would avoid it like the Plague.

It will take her a little longer to reach breeding size, but at least you will be able to breed her for many years to come. My '03 females are all around 36" - 45". At this rate, it will take them until they are about 3.5 years old till they are ready to breed. A long time to wait, but well worth it.

Take care,
