I believe it's just a sensory thing, like how snakes flick their tongues out. It gives them information abotu their environment.

thats a social behavior that is very common in dragons. they taste things to see if there familiar.

just kidding, god everytime mine is put on anything (like when he goes from cage to hand-hand to floor-floor to hand, etc) he licks it...which is fine i think its cute
