SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE (Indiana) 17 January 05 DNR seeks frog listeners - Volunteers sought for springtime activity
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is looking for Hoosiers to count toads and frogs this spring.
Speculation about a nationwide decline in frogs and toads has led to creation of the North American Amphibian Monitoring Program and the Indiana Amphibian Monitoring Program.
Volunteers are needed to listen for frogs and toads from late February through July, the breeding season for those critters in Indiana.
New volunteers must attend a training workshop. Past volunteers, on the other hand, don't need to attend.
The workshops will cover Indiana's 17 frog and toad species, their calls and breeding habitats, survey setup and recording data.
Participants need Internet access to record their observations.
INAMP is funded by donations to the Endangered Wildlife Fund on the Indiana state income tax form.
For more information contact Kacie Ehrenberger at (317) 234-3361 or kehrenberger@dnr.in.gov.
Workshop participants should tell gate staff or building staff at workshop locations they are attending an amphibian monitoring workshop so they are not charged an entrance fee.
