OMG he ate a worm from my hand!

IguanaMama Jan 18, 2005 07:26 PM

But that's not why I'm here. Can anyone recommend to me a good website or book specifically about Jackson's. Either I'm flunking google 101 or my overly stressed brain is missing something. I keep finding general chameleon info and a lot of conflicting info. Ficus is great! says one site... Ficus is bad! says another. I ended up buying a Hibiscus. Also, I read that if he is in a good mood, he'll be green, but I also read that he will blend into his background, which in my case is mostly brown sticks. He's been brown and patterned most of the time, really well camoflaged into his surroundings as he's been hanging around the branches mostly, not the leaves. I see him drink and I know that he ate at least one worm. He's not real active, but does move from branch to branch. I got him on Saturday. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Jodi

I use Scheffelera, it is very sturdy, has nice large branches, and the leaves do not fall off like hibiscus or ficus. I also put in a Tea plant as well as a spider plant...variety in textures.. About your chameleon type... try Amazon.com for books.

Congrats on your new cham. I keep my jacksons in ficus, they seem to do fine in them. But my advice to you is keep him hydrated, give him food and leave him alone. Don't handle him for a while (I would actually recomend to never hold them, but thats just me). Make sure he has plenty of cover (a large tree does the job) and make sure he's in a all screen enclosure (Sorry if you have him set up like this, I jsut don't know how you ahve him set up). Since Jacksons are montane, they need lots of venilation and moisture. Good luck

Also about the books, there are some good books out theere that have species profiles in them, like Chameleon Volume I by W. Shmidt, K. Tamm and E Wallikewitz. But there is also alot of good info on the web. Some sites are www.adcham.com and www.chameleonjournals.com.

Thank you all for your relpies, they were very helpful. I bought some plants at petco they swore up and down that they were safe, and some lucky bamboo too.
