Got my provent-a-mite.... Mainly to Rob but to to others too.....

Justin Stricklin Jan 18, 2005 07:42 PM

It finally came in and I have treated 5 boxes (plastic boxes I keep my colubrids in) with it because over a period of 2 weeks the mites had spread from my blod python to my other boxes beside it.. But anyways, I did as the instructions said and all but I was thinking yuo could spray it on the animal. I was almost positive you could.. According to the directions it is a big no no. Exactly how does it kill the mites if yuo cannot spray it on the snakes? I did all the spraying and drying in my living room so I would not have to worry about my tarantulas and fish. I will probably move the tarantulas out here in am minute. Oh next tiem I giv the treatment do you think it would be alright to sort of smear the stuff with a paper towel so it won't take so long for it to dry? thanx in advance.

P.S. I would have posted this in the blood forum but the only 2 times I posted in there I did not get a response from anyone.

what has worked well for me in the past was to remove all the substrate and replace it with paper towel..and then spray everything down...once you put the snake back in you will see them drop like flies....the paper towel works well because you can see the dead ones easy.
That stuff works great....kills them suckers fast

Please do NOT spray your snake with provent-a-mite... I've heard too many stories of ppl's snakes dieing from having done that or not letting the container air out properly or the room being closed and no windows opened prior to putting the snakes back in.
The stuff is toxic. But if you follow the directions, it works. I wondered the same thing, but you can't argue with results. I've never heard of anyone having a mite problem (or a dead snake) after using Provent-A-Mite by following the directions exactly.

Do not worry I will not spray it on the snake... I was just making sure that I was not supposed to. I followed the Directions too.
