Shedding Problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!

briank Jan 18, 2005 09:15 PM

I have two geckos that have skin tightly wrapped around their feet. I have been doing warm water soaks and gently rubbing, but i am getting NO progress, and I am afraid these two are going to lose their feet soon. They are already starting to turn black, and I need advice now.

Please help me

feet turning black? how did things get so bad?

Well, if you have a pair of scissors with a very tiny blade, like cuticle scissors, you could try to cut through the dead skin around the wrists so it isnt constricting like a rubber band. But you'd have to be verrrry careful not to cut delicate gecko skin instead, and sterilize the scissors blades first. Then I'd try putting Neosporin all over the feet and letting that soak in for a while, then try the gently rubbing off again.

Once you get the skin off, your work isn't done. Put Neosporin on those feet every day, maybe twice a day, until they are completely healed.

Ok, I will try this, but my little baby who is about 5 weeks old has this on some of her feet, and she is so tiny...it seems like even if i touch her little legs it hurts, because her feet are like pins!

the bigger one I can do this to, and my third gecko....he's a monster, and he's fine, its like these two geckos dont wanna finish off the job, they can get it off themselves if they tried.

Ok, yeah, don't try the scissors on the baby. It's so hard to help them when they're that small, and they don't help at all by not holding still one little bit. But if its feet are turning black you have to do something quick. Do the Neosporin thing. That stuff sortof softens the dead skin. Then after a while you could try pulling apart the edge of the shed with tweezers or your fingernails, anything to get the shed around the wrist to start to tear. Once it starts to tear you can usually at least release the circle of skin around the wrist so the circulation to the feet is improved.
