Night time temp drops.

deuce02 Jan 19, 2005 12:39 AM

Ok,
its been getting bitterly cold up here this week. Im talking below zero out and i have one cage that im having a problem keeping the temp up at night. All of my cages are against a wall where we have a crawl space behind so theres space between the cages and the cold air(if that makes sense) Well this cage is the only one not against crawls and it gets really cold. It got under 60 in that cage last night and im afraid its going to get colder. I took my little girl out all this week and put her in a spare aquarium to keep her worm enough. i just dont wanna keep doing that, Any suggestions. I tried an electric heating pad and put it behind the cage between the wall and the cage, and it didnt raise the temp 1 degree. i dont know what to do.

thanks in advance

Invest in a heat lamp perhaps? One of those Heat Emitter ones for nocturnal reptiles, that liek heat, but no light.
Get wut i mean?

Cereamic heat emitters work well. Just make sure it is positioned somewhere where the dragon can't touch it, they can be very hot. A black nightlight would work for a few days, I have heard they can disrupt the dragon's sleep, but a few days wouldn't hurt, and if your dragon is like mine and sleeps in a cave, it wouldn't matter.

The problem with that is its a melamine cage, has no other socket other then the one for the day time heat source, and no other place to put a heat bulb. I guess ill just move her to another cage permanently or perhaps move the cage to another wall.

thanks for the suggestions.

i put a heat pad on at night, on one cage, and a black light on another, so they dont drop.

We are having the same problem. I put a piece of posterboard (the foam kind) in the window and that seemed to help. How about putting a piece of insulated foam board behind the cage?

Hi
nice beardie
if the temps drop not under the 50 then it would be no problem.
r else you need a ceramic heater .
