Some protein is necessary, sulcatas will eat carrion if available.
I know sulcatas will eat dead birds, mine would eat live ones
if he could climb trees better. And think of all the insects they'd
be eating in the wild on natural grasses. Not too many insects
on store-bought collards (usually!).
When you soak Mazuri, it absorbs so much water that the weight
of what they eat increases 4-fold and the protein concentration
decreases accordingly. Soak it in hot water for a few seconds
then drain. Actually I fed mine Mazuri beginning when he was 2.
For a while he got it a lot, now it's maybe once every 2 weeks.
(Teddy is currently 5 years old and weighs 70 plus pounds).
You're better off getting a variety of squashes and zuchinni, along
with endive and escarole lettuces, (not romaine or iceberg),
and yellow and green peppers, some bananas occasionally, and
your standard dark leafy vegetables. Once in a great while some
treats like apples/strawberries/watermelon rind/cantaloupe,
cauliflower, broccoli and spinach.
