my aberrant tangerine honduran layed 3 slugs. they are about 4 to 4 and 1/2 long each. they fold in half if you pick then up. first time ive ever bred. any way to prevent this from happening next year? thx.

How old is your female? Is that all she layed? Just 3 slugs and nothing else? I've had plenty of occasions when a snake would lay 2 or 3 slugs first, then a day or two later start pumping out fertile eggs. Does she still look heavy? After a female lays her clutch she will normally look pretty pathetic for a while. You have to start pouring the food to her then.

If that's all she had, then the most common causes causes are:

1. Low sperm count in the male usually due to inadequate or no brumation.

2. Female is either too old or too young, or in poor condition at breeding time.

3. Copulation did not actually occur.

thx for info. she is 3 years old, i thought she may have been a bit underweight. i dont think she has any more eggs. ill try to pump her up for next year. thanks.
