yellow colour genetics

mjf Jan 19, 2005 05:09 AM

My male yellow is I believe hypomelanistic? The markings on his back are not solid black...more towards the tail. My female though has very solid black markings. It looks like she may be pregnant. Assuming so, does anyone know what colours she`ll throw? Is reduced black a recessive gene? Or co-dominant? Or will they just blend? I`ve never read anyone addressing this. Hopefully I`m gonna know regardless. Good luck to anyone else. Hopefully I``ll be able to post pics in a few months. Cheers.

What I have seen is many of them start showing yellow within the spots thus looking "reduced" with age. I would like to see photos of your anaconda(s) though. Anaconda morph genetics are not all well known either. I believe it is safe to say the albino and the axanthics are simple recessive though. I actually hope these granites will get some of the yellow within the black areas because they would just look more insane.

Actually, from what I`ve seen having known these animals from neonates, they haven`t changed colour at all, my personal experience.

it could very well be you have a reduced, semi-reduced, or even hypo. Share pictures please. I would like to see them.

Sorry no camera yet, though I look forward to posting. Maybe because of its relatively small range, it seem like no one knows the origins of captive bred bloodlines unlike boa constrictors.

` I'm not an authority on genetics, all I really know about it is that diarrhea is genetic. It runs in your jeans.
` I think that there are more than one race of Yellow Anaconda. As you know, Boa constrictor ssps. have many different genetic lines, called all sorts of different names, by different people.
` The two Yellows in this picture certainly have different markings. The female is the dark one. Both are giants, for Yellow Anacondas, yet are clearly different morphs.
