my dragon is dropping part of his tail

velcro Jan 19, 2005 12:06 PM

My 1 & 1/2 year old dragon started dropping the first inch of his tail. My vet says that it's a normal thing for a beardie to do if it was damaged. When we bought him, the part that is dropping off was kinked pretty bad....(yes, we bought it from a pet store...shame shame shame). I wanted to find out if there are people out there who has had a beardie do this too.

Yes it happens if it's damaged and the blood supply is cut off. Usually it will form a block at a where the blood is cut off and fall off on it's own from there. Sometimes a vet will be needed to amputate though, it just depends on how high it is and how much flesh and bone is involved. Watch for infection and if you notice any get it to a vet asap.
