Shaky walk?

Dave A. Jul 05, 2003 08:19 AM

I just recently recieved a leopard gecko and noticed something a little odd. When it walks its legs are shaky. Its not a bad shake but I dont think its normal.

Im currently keeping it in a 20L tank with the cool side around in the high 70's and the warm side in the low to mid 90's. It is feed mainly mealworms dusted with the Leopard Gecko Dust Super Foods. There is also a dish of calcium in the tank.

Any ideas on whats wrong with the gecko and what if anything I can do to help it out?

The warm side shouldn't be above 90 degrees, 90 at the highest, and the cool side should be room temperature, around 75ish. You might have the tank too cold or to hot, try adjusting your temperatures and she is that does anything. That is the only thing I can think of, sorry I couldn't be more help.

They temps on the warm side of the tank is too high...it should be mid to high 80s.
Shaking legs can be a symptom of MBD (metabolic bone disease) so make sure you dust the crickets with extra calcium. However, my leo Phoenix also has a shakey walk and I am almost positive he does not have MBD.

My females front legs have always shook when she walked real slow. I always thought it was normal since shes fat and healthy as can be, around 85 grams. Is this normal? Or should I be concerned? Thanks,

I think it may be normal, kindof like how we can hold out our hand and keep it still but it still shakes slightly (its just the muscles working). But excessive shaking, where the leo is having trouble walking smoothly is a definite sign of MBD. My leos legs shake slightly as well and they are perfectly healthy.

Thanks for the replies, I dont think its MBD, im pretty much positive, Its very active and growing very well, nice plump tail. The shakiness comes when its moving real slow like stalking a mealworm or something, but when its moving at normal speed there is no shaking. Thanks for the help.
