HELP... Does anyone breed "Blaze Phase" Goini Kings?... if not do you know any thing about the genetics?

ZFelicien Jan 19, 2005 09:59 PM

i recently purchased a female Goini ("Blaze Phase" and i was wondering how the gene works... is it like the lavender, hypo, or axanthic genes in Brooksi? do i have to breed "Blaze Phase" to "Blaze Phase" inorder to produce "Blaze Phase" offspring?
if i were to breed "Blaze Phase" to "Normal" would they be het. for "Blaze Phase?" or would the offspring be a lil lighter than the "Normal" Goini.

Please explain how this works!... the "Blaze Phase" look like the hypo Goini, is it so? or is it like the tangerine apperance in honduran milks?

contact Stephen Fowler of "Fowler foods" listed in the breeders section.Email him the pic and ask him if it is a blaze phaze.

Gulf Coast Reptiles might also be able to help you with some info but I don't have their number.

Thanx for the info.. hope i get this problem sloved.

Supposedly, Hypo Florida Kings were bred into "goini" to produce the Blaze Phase. So anytime you see one, know it's not a true "goini". This is why you'll see Gulf Coast selling Blaze Phase and HET for Blaze Phase. They were the ones I believe to produce them. The name Blaze Phase was just something fancy to call them instead of Hypo "goini".

Hey Sean, who told you they were crossed with hypo brooksi? If you don't want to post it here, email me. Gulf Coast says they are pure, but we all know what that means......and why can't anyone provide pics of adults? They've been around for 5 years now. Is there something genetically keeping them at hatchling sizes? lol.

ANYONE???

Would love to see some pics of some three or four year olds if anyone has any. . . . .

Thanks!

They are not going to be too blazing.....I lost interest in them after being blown off from someone known to produce them. Hatchling pics are always plentiful compared to adults in general but to NEVER see an adult form of a morph posted just can't be a good sign. You'd think the originators would be proud to show some off? Hopefully we'll get a look at one soon. If they have some bright colors on them I will be surprised. Tom Stevens

I don't think anyone has directly told me that Gulf Coast bred Hypo FL Kings with "goini" but I've discussed this with many people and it seems to be the obvious conclusion. Gulf Coast has produced axanthic and albino "goini" by breeding FL Kings with them as well. Just remember, only normal "goini" have ever been found in the wild.

And I may have some pics of adults on my computer at home. I'm at work but I'll check later and post some if I have any.

gulf coast, that is... they said the blaze phase came from breeding for high red coloration, and the blaze phase babies just popped up in a clutch. I think their coloration is similar to that of brooks kings, but as far as them being crossed with hypo florida kings... it is still not known that blaze and hypo are the same mutation. Until someone breeds a blaze goini with a hypo floridana and gets 100% blaze/hypos, I think the idea of the blaze phase goini being crosses is just speculation.

Tony D Jan 21, 2005 08:38 PM

Not sure why they would come clean on the albino goini and lie about the blaze! I think your conclusion is sufficient to warrent not getting them if you need to be 100% sure you're getting pure goini but saying they are crosses as if its fact isn't quite warrented is it?

Tony D Jan 21, 2005 08:43 PM

I have 2.1 adults. I think the reason you don't see adult pics is because they aren't all that spectacular. Nice yes but nothing like the neonates. Then again that's typical of goini in my limited experience. Smokin neonates and muted adults.

bluerosy Jan 20, 2005 08:48 PM

Sean,
I am not sold on the fact that hypo brooksi were bred into a apalachicola to produce the blaze. Maybe you know something I don't?? Or is this just pure speculation?

I have seen hypo brooksiXgoini and they look fantastic.

In any case is Zennys a hypo? It does not look like a hypo to me. Thats why I suggested he contact someone that knows these animals better.

Zenny- send Stephen Fowler your pic and ask him if its a blaze!
Also ask the person you purchased them from and see what he says about who he got them from.

I have purchased 4 Gulf Coast Blaze Goini's over the past 2 years. The male is looking great and growing good. I don't power feed anymore so for a lot of you it may be small for a 2 year old. I'll post a pic later today. The problem I have had all of the sudden is that 2 females, a 1 year old and the other a 2 year old all of the sudden developed a swollen place in the general area where the heart is. The swollen area is soft like an air pocket. Reminds me of subcutaneous emphysema. Feels like an air pocket under the skin. Odd that both females have done this and the male is perfect. I also have a small female the is only 6 months or so old and she looks fine at this point but now I'm concerned about it being a genetic problem. I am going to continue to grow them and if the swollen areas don't go away and if not then I may put them down since I don't want to pass this on. Has anyone else had this problem with this particular strain? HDEAN

Very Nice looking animals! Thanks for sharing those pics! It WAS nice to see an older animal of this particular morph. I can't give you an answer on the "air pocket" near the heart on your two older females. I just hope it's nothing serious and goes away. Never heard of that before as far as I can remember.
I DO wish you good luck with them and hope they all make it!

Hey great animals the last female looks almost identical to mine. Now you said you'd put the females down if the didn't grow out of the "air pocket" I'd hate to see snakes put down for such a thing ... if you don't wanna breed um I'd understand but don't put them down. I'm sure there are many individuals that wouldn't mind housing snakes of such beauty if you felt you had no use for um.
I do wish you the best of luck with your females and keep us posted on how they are doing. If all doesn't go well I won't mind purchasing the 2 females in question.

Again Good Luck!
