Rack Ideas?

josiahatteberry Jan 19, 2005 11:02 PM

im thinking about expanding to more geckos and stuff but as it is my room is filled with tanks for fish and a frog and another for gecko so i have seen pics of leos living in rack systems. i didnt know if these are stressfull to the animal or how they handle the enviroment, and is it possible to make them because all that i have seen for sale are fairly large and im not so sure that one of those would fit my application or my needs. so if anyone has any info about how leos adapt or how well they handle living in them, or if anyone has any info or anything on building racks, or if i am just wasting my time getting things confused.........as i unfortunately often do, i would very grateful, thanks

About the cheapest thing you could do would be to get and old bookshelf and run heat tape or heat cable along the back. You might need to add a rheostat to keep it from getting too hot. For Gecko homes buy sweater boxes at Wal=Mart and drill air holes in them. I keep Geckos in tanks and a rack like this and have not had any problems. I think the smallest size sweater box that should be considered an adequate home for a Gecko is the 12 Quart size. With a rack like this ( 4 or 5 shelf bookcase) you could keep 8 to 12 Geckos.
