Smaller Boa Species???

XSamX Jan 20, 2005 01:05 AM

I am relatively new to the world of boas and was wondering if there were any relatively small species of boas available. Preferablly a species that could live its life in a rack type setup (probably a snake of up to about 4 1/2 feet). Thanks

YES. Mainly localities, and insular forms of BCI. Tarahumara Mt. boas are the smallest females have bred at 38 inches in length. Then there are Cay Caulkers, and Crawl Cays from two islands off of Belize. Sonoran, Mexican boas stay small.

Also males of Nicauaguan, El Salvador, and Honduran locale. These include the prospective insular forms, Hog Island, Roatan, etc.

In general you can expect these forms to remain the sizes you are looking for.

Don't forget the sand and rosy boas. Some of them are pretty nice looking.

Longicauda are small, females 6-7 feet and 12 lbs, males 4-5 feet 5 lbs, plus they look total different from any of the of boas.
