CB Eastern Coachwhip Milestones

eastindigo Jan 20, 2005 07:39 AM

Back in September I aquired a 1.1 pair. The female died suddenly and very unexpectantly around November. The male has been thriving. He has since eaten 7 anoles (petshop prices) shed and last night ate a scented pink. It takes a bit of teasing, and a few tiny bites, but when his teeth he food he goes right into feeding mode. Early on I noticed that wiggling prey gets him cranked up, the anoles know it too, damn things play dead.

Congrats on surviving one of them anyway, I havent maintained that many coachwhips, but of those I have, dead prey was accepted readily so dont give up on the f/t fuzzies. Im sure if a juvenile has or is given the option, just like neonate indigos, theyre hardwired to prefer lizards, snakes, & large insects over mammalian prey.
The big Oklahoma cruisers Im currently keeping outside in my 140 sq' enclosure are being trained to take roadkills & f/t mammals out of a feeding tub

Cheers, JG
