Mystic UVB lights? Really that great????

CrittersMailToo Jan 20, 2005 09:31 AM

Sorry if this has been discussed here already; I did a search and came up with nothing in the BD forum, and not really all that much discussion on other forums.

Has anyone used them and are they as great as advertised? I just can't imagine them getting enough UVB in 2 hours, and can't imagine why it is the only bulb that can produce so many microwatts.

The claim is -- standard fluorescents produce more than 200 microwatts and that the average UVB level is ~140 microwatts at 30 cm.

Thanks y'all.. any input is welcome!

When these bulbs first came out they were supposed to be used like any other fluorescent for the same amount of time.. Problem was that they were causing beardies eyes to swell shut, and causing the dragons to sit listless on the bottom of the cages with their eyes closed.. Instead of recalling the bulbs this company says now you only need to expose the dragons for two hours.... fact is there are bulbs that give off twice as much uvb and can be used for days at a time and not cause any vision problems or swelling of the eyes. there is something wrong and instead of taking a loss and fixing the bulbs they change the marketing and continue to sell them stll not knowing why they are causing these problems. For t6his I ceased any business with this company as it shows a lack of care for their customers and our pets..

I have heard from a couple of people that have used them to only have poor results from their beardies. Eye swellings and such, so use only with extreme caution but better off not at all.
