Well, he arrived!

Chance Jan 20, 2005 10:33 AM

UPS just dropped off the cribo (left him on the porch without so much as a honk no less) and he is awesome. He's flighty, but didn't try to nail me or anything. He's very clean and in great condition. I'm giving him a bit to settle in to his new enclosure before taking pictures, but they should be up a little later today. Anyway, I just wanted to update the forum a bit.

Good luck with him. If you're experiencing cold, dry weather mist him every other day or so. "Fat Bastard", male unicolor obtained from Dan Felice as a June 02 hatchling, is my favorite snake. Drymarchon: bet you can't keep one.

We ran him outside during the brief warm spell this evening and took these shots. They aren't the best in the world, but I think you get the idea. So what's the consensus then? Still looking like D. m. unicolor? Or is there the potential for an intergrade with D. melanurus? He ended up rubbing his nose a bit on the screening at the top of the 3' slant front Neo I originally set him up in, so I moved him into a 4' Vision until he calms down a bit. He has began to hide now so I think he's adjusting. Before, he was darting all over both enclosures looking for a way out. I'm considering offering him some food soon (esp if my 112 quail eggs begin to hatch in the next couple of days!) to see how well he's settling. For now though, enjoy the pics.

Nice looking snake indeed! CONGRATS! yes...still unicolor...RECOMMENDATION: if he is feeding on mice and arts, I woulkd start him out on that. soemtimes they like birds so much that they wont convert back without a hassle. SO offer him mice and rats and mix up the food. GREAT LOOKING SNAKE

SINCERELY

Thanks for the good words from you guys. And thanks Fred for the tip. Unfortunately, I already fed him a f/t chick last night just to see if he would eat, and he did eat it. We'll see how things go though. If he decides he only wants birds....lord knows I'll have plenty to feed him! I have a feeling though that he won't be too picky. They were feeding him rats before I got him, and I'm sure he was raised on a diet of mainly rodents and yet he still wanted the chick, so I think he'll probably keep an appetite for them. I like to vary the diet of all my snakes when possible, using rats, mice, birds, and rabbits (for the bigger guys, of course). That's a thought though....I wonder if the cribo would take rabbit pinks and/or fuzzies? Guess I'll find out. Anyway, thanks again for the compliments.
