odd shell growth i've noticed -- any ideas?

unchikun Jan 20, 2005 11:46 AM

this past weekend i noticed, for the first time, that my redfoot has some odd new growth on his underside.

i'm not thinking that it'd photograph well, so the best way that i can describe it is that it's like the opposite of pyramiding: instead of the central part (scute) being raised outward, it's the "seams" in between that stick out a bit from the rest. is it normal for new growth to protrude a bit? i'm wondering if i'm doing anything wrong now. he's about 1 year and 4 months old now, and if i had to take a guess, his shell is maybe 5 inches long (i'm here at work, and i don't measure him regularly!). is he maybe growing too fast?

any ideas, anyone? thanks in advance... i'm a paranoid tort mama, what can i say?
