Eastern Milksnake Rescue in Michigan

reddragon01 Jan 20, 2005 01:08 PM

A friend of a friend of mine had this little bugger crawling around their garage last week. Must have been warm enough to keep it from hibernation, but there must not have been any food in there, so it's very thin. I have it in a quarantine tank right now, it's close to 36 inches long, and quite unlike any other EM I've caught; doesn't bite at all, very calm animal. I've fed it twice (2 pinkies each), just to get it acclimated to eating again, and will be trying a fuzzy this week. Sorry for the poor pics, I waste all my money taking care of my animals and can't afford a decent digital camera hehehe.

Found this one back in September in Presque Isle Co, MI. It has a kind of aberrant pattern, like yours. What county did you find yours in?

Hey Terry, that's a pretty one. This one was found in St Clair County. Must be an older snake because I found one about 24 inches long over the summer around here as well that had much more gray in it's background, this one is mostly tan-ish color.

Thanks.

Yeahh, that's an interesting snake. They do tend to get browner and darker as they get older. Should still be a few fox snakes around by L. St. Clair, aren't there? Thanks for the post...

Boy I wish I could find one too. They are supposed to hang around the shore area of the lake, but unfortunately most of that property is private, so I can't get enough access to find them where they're supposed to be! Even if I could find one, I'd be limited to taking pics as it's illegal to even touch an Eastern Fox snake in Michigan, and considering all the residential development destroying its habitat, maybe it's a good thing that restriction is there.
