Found a foriegn lizard in my kitchen...

flamingomonster Jan 20, 2005 02:10 PM

I found this lizard in my kitchen. It isn't native... I'm pretty sure. I think it might have come in with a bunch of bananas. There was a perfect little nook in the bananas for him to hide. He's about three inches long and seems to like humidity. He's been eating very heartily on fruit flies. Does anyone know what he is?

Hemidactylus species...looks like frenatus where are you from? n/m

In taking another look at the pics....it looks more lepidodactylus lugubris because on the lack of enlarged spiny scales on the tail and the absence of a claw on the inner toes.

The lizard does have small claws except on its inner most toe on each foot. I'm from Portland Oregon. The bananas I suspect he... or maybe she traveled in on were from Ecuador. Thanks for your help : )

The geckoes I was talking about originate from South East Asian and the Pacific regions. This being said however, L. lugubris is (at least some populations) unisexual and are great colonizers. I am not familiar enough with New World Species though to even get to a genus level.

Sorry I could'nt help more,

It could also be Lepidoblepharis heyerorum or other Lepidoblepharis ssp. There are a number of them in Ecuador, Guyana and other South American countries
