Tegu problem..

modsquad5150 May 15, 2003 10:04 PM

I have posted before about the problem..for the last few weeks i notice cracks in the skin on my tegu's tail...the skin looks like it is ready to come off but it isn't coming off and the tail has a few cracks in the skin. I have tried soaking and i tried spritsing the enclosure to raise humidity....and i've tried a little more fruit in the diet...i made a fruit blend that i put on the food b/c he doesn't eat fruit straight up a lot...but it doesn't seem to be clearing anything up...any suggestions on what i should do or anything about what it can be?
thanks,
harvey

i had a problem like this with my green basilisk. i took a little bit of baby oil and rubbed it on the stuck skin. let it set in for 10 or 15 minutes. then let it soak in some water. the next day i did the same thing and after applying the baby oil i rubbed my fingers together around the tail and it separated the skin right off. maybe give this a try. goodluck

Another thing that you can try is emu oil. I used that on my dwarf tegu when she had a problem shedding the skin on her tail and it pretty much did the job.
