UTH Or overhead heat?

Luis Jan 20, 2005 05:48 PM

In a long enough tank with cool and warm areas would an overhead ceramic no light heat emmitter be better than an UTH?
I would think the UTH wouldnt heat the air space while the heat emmitter would and thus be better. The snake is going to be an Arizona mt king room temp is 68(room temp) so not sure which heat system would be better.
Both deliver warm areas and other side of tank is cooler 68 degrees.
Thanks.
Luis

I'd go with an UTH. They both would work but the UTH is a lot less clutter, cheaper, and provides heat right onto their belly, and i think it works great although you're right, it doesn't really heat the ambient air much. Plus, I believe Mtn Kings do great with ambient temps like you have as long as they can heat up their belly after they eat for digestion.

it will help if you cover most of the top of the tank with something humidity proof,a piece of plastic, aluminium foil etc. you can use this to fine tune temps and humidity.have fun!

Thanks I have to order one so wasnt sure which one to order. I will get the UTH . The cluster, price isnt an issue but what you said makes sense that the room temp isnt bad for this type of snake aslong as belly heat. so will opt for that and place one hide area over heated side and one over cooler side.
