Aspen bedding

Michelle1010 Jan 20, 2005 06:48 PM

I have read that aspen bedding is the best to use. I have seen pictures that have big shavings of aspen but I bought some from Walmart and the shavings are not big, very fine. Is this going to be a problem for our snow corn? We are using some sort of kiln stuff the pet store gave us. Seems to work fine but aspen looks softer.

The fine aspen shavings, in my opinion, are even better.
The snakes like to tunnel through the aspen and the fine shavings seem to keep the shape of the tunnels better.
Looks good too.
I would recommend feeding out of the viv. to be safe. Helps prevent consumption of the shavings.

aspen is aspen. i prefer the shredded over the chipped as well... it is easier for the snakes to burrow in.

if u got it from walmart though, make sure its aspen not pine. the walmart here doesnt sell aspen, however i've heard of some that do. just double check.

Thank you for the help. Yes, I made sure it was aspen and not pine. They sell both. I also feed in a different container so that will not be a problem. Thank you again for help.

I was a newspaper freak for years. The small cut aspen is nice smelling and even if my snakes ingest some it passes right out.
Ive found that drying f/t will keep most of the aspen off and for the last six months Ive had no problems. With the smaller cut aspen you can use a shop vac and cleaning out 12 cages only takes me around an hour.Aspen is also easy to spot clean.Your nose will tell you when you need to change it...Paul
