Should I get a water heater for FBT's?

frogopolis Jan 20, 2005 07:40 PM

Its winter now and I noticed my FBT water temp is only getting to about 72 during the day and dropping to 68 at night. I have a 20 gallon low water setup with filter. Is this to cold for them? Should I get a underwater heater?

I would get one because when it's codler they don't seem to move around alot just sit there. Mine dropped to like 68 once and they hardly moved that whole day, and wasn't in the water much. Mines around 80 degreees, it drops below a little but mostly 80.

I think I might, but I also read that these guys can do fine even in water a little under 60. Is that true?

I think so because where they are in china I think it's not that hot there. I would at leats get a water heat to get it to stay at 75. But that's just me.

Fire-bellied Toads will do just fine if it is 68 during the night. In fact, a temperature drop is ideal for these toads. The general rule of thumb for Fire-bellies is that if it's a pretty average indoor temperature, your toads will be fine too. Hope it helps.
