Helix Heat Panel question

Rottenweiler9 Jan 20, 2005 09:42 PM

Ok, so I just installed my heat panels in my cages. I am not using a thermastat because the temps seem to be ok, anyone else not use a thermastat with these. I measured the temps of the heat panel and it was 200 degrees is this dangourous?

Thank you
Jeff

The temps are ok underneath and next to it, actually right where I want them.

Second is can you spray the cage and get some water on the heat panel or no.

Thanks
Jeff

200 degrees is really hot.. I would put a tstat in the mix just to be safe. You shoudl also contact helix and see what the safe operating temps are...

Dang! What temps are you shooting for? Surface temps on my Helix RHPs are normally in the 100-160 degree range. That's shooting for a target temp of around 90-degrees 18" below the heat panel.

200-degrees, I would say, seems a bit too hot. Keep in mind that water boils at 212 degrees! Perhaps you need to buy a larger heat panel for the size of your cage? I'd be concerned about burning your animals if they come into contact with the panel and also about shortening the lifetime of the panel by running it full-blast all the time.

As another poster suggested: it might not be a bad idea to call or e-mail Helix on this...

you will need a stat for it . what you are reading is the surface temps of the RHP what will happen is that 200 degrees will start building heat up and become very hot i would use a stat on it for safety reason notto over heat the cage
