Well here it is July, what's been going on at the meetings. Who is the new Pres. , is Mike Wilcox still around? I was a member last year but it seemed like it was a bit unorganized. I think people got burnt out. It would have been nice if there was more field trips. I guess we're all too buzy to plan things. I wonder how you could ignite that spark again.I live near temecula there's so many herping spots, not to collect but just to discover. I think just passing on info would have been cool, but it seemed members were a little tight lipped. Just the feeling I got thats all. If anyone is interested in exploring new spots or just to talk herps I'm here. LATE, Dave

Dave, I'm in Temecula also... woo hoo and would love to get a couple field trips together. I've had interest expressed by another couple that said they have flexible hours. Funny you bring this right up too.... I expressed my surprise at our last meeting when I discovered that herp trips weren't very well received by the general membership as time was always a factor for most.

Sean Bush M.D. is our scheduled speaker for Aug, we should have a pretty good turn out at that meeting. Dave is still with us Kent has been doing a bang up job lining up speakers and is always open to suggestions from all of us.

Dave, I'm even open for evening walks after work locally.... I'm thinking we could get a few people interested at least as a start

Sounds cool. Last year my wife and I went with this other couple night driving at Whitewater. They were from the club, maybe you have met them, Steve and his mom Betty, they are really into turtles. We didn't see anything much and it seemed he got bored really fast. In the past we have just gone road cruising. I'm mostly inerested in snakes and my wife likes geckos. Haven't been up by Anza for a while. We'll be busy next couple of weeks , my son is coming home from the army. Oh yah we live in Menifee. What kind of herps are you into

Hey DAVO,
I would definitively be up to herp the local area. I am new to the Temecula area, I actually live in Oceanside 20 min away. I just got back from Iraq so I am interested in checking out good herping spots.

Sounds cool, WOW Iraq, did you see any herps over there? My son just got back from Korea, also. We should plan on something in the next couple of weeks. I'm kinda busy till then. What kinda herps are you into? We went to the I.R.B.A. show in San Diego yesterday, it was kinda weak. Not as much as shows in the past.

Iraq was okay for herps. I caught a few sand vipers, a cobra, and lots of sand boas. The only real cool herp that I cought was an albino uromasyx. I took a few picks of him but they came out sort of messed up. As far as IRBA in San Diego, it was a big disapointment. It was really small compared to the ones in the past. When you get the chance to go herping and you wouldn't mind some company shoot me an email at RojasReptiles@aol.com
Till then take care!

Dave:

Good to hear from you. Glad to hear you're still around and actively herping. To answer your question, yes, obviously I'm still around. I've been a extremely busy and have not been to a meeting in a couple months. My wife and I just had our first child (a son, born 28 June) and I was leading an eco-trip to central America a few weeks prior to that. I do intend to get back when I can, however. I'm still trying to be as active as I can, but at the same time am more limited in my activities as I've ever been.

You guys should come up for the Aug. meeting. It will definately be worth it and it would be great to see you guys again.

Until then, best regards.

Mike

Hey Mike, Sounds like you've had a busy year. Congradulations on your new son. I've been thinking about you lately, what you were up to this year. It was always nice to talk to you about herps, you have a wealth of knowledge I could learn from. I checked out the upper desert earlier this year, but didn't see much. Was hoping to see a mojave or two, never seen one up close. I bred my grayband kingsnakes this year, she laid five eggs, after three weeks their still white so I'm crossing my fingers. Anyway I'm glad to be able to say hi. Did you beed anything this year? I stll have a few scorpions around, they just keep multiplying. See Ya, Dave

Thanks Dave. And yes, it's been the busiest year I've ever experienced to date. Congrats on the L. alterna eggs. By the sound of it, you'll be hatching out a mess of the prettiest little worms you will ever see. I used to breed graybands years ago. I still have a soft spot for them. I'm always salivating over the ones posted in the classifieds. Start hunting good hatchling lizard spots. Let me know if you get desperate. I know a few good spots locally where I can go get as many as I need.

If you really want to see C. scutulatus, you need to go to SE AZ. They are very common and easy to find this time of year. I can also give you some tips on some local (Mojave) roads where I've seen them.

I'm expecting Mexican, San Felipe, and Catavina Rosys to name a few.

Are you planning on attending the meeting this Tue? It will be the first I've been to in a few months. I'm looking forward to it. I hope you can make it.

Mike
