Someone Please help to identify what kind of turtle I have...

NewTurtleOwner Jul 05, 2003 11:48 AM

Hey,

I recently became a turtle owner when I was given a turtle by a family friend who could no longer care fo it. I would like to care for it properly but for that I nwed to know what kind of turtle it is. If anyone can help to take a guess or even identify it, I would deeply appreciate it. As i am told, the turtle was found on the beaches of New Jersey. Its shell is approximately 8 in length and 6 in width.. It's hind legs are webbed.. Its shell does not come to a point in the center.. but has slight curvature. No distinct patterns on its shell.,.. dark green head with yellow straight lines, along it's head and front and back legs. It can extend its head about an inch and half.... itstail has that same dark with yellow lines on it and is quite long... longer than your average turtle.. about an inch and 3/4... i think thats about it... oh, yes.. its nails are also long but not claw like.. just straight...
please help me in identifying what kind of turtle i have.....
any help is deeply appreciated..

thank you,

ed

sounds like a male cooter or slider of some type. Specific species id would require photos.
