Right up my alley

Jan 21, 2005 03:09 PM

Yes Europeans
Not to many interested in them and especially not in breeding locality forms. We are a few maintaining them for many years. They are generally not as easy bred as many american ratsnakes, but that makes it just more exciting, when it happens.
Here is a few pics to enjoy:

Spottet situla from Yuguslavia

Quatuorlineata muenteri from Amorgos
Striped situla from Kerkyra

Melanistic longissima from Loir Valley France

Sauromates female

Quatuorlineata female fom Kerkyra

Scalaris male

I've always loved that melanistic longissima of yours. I hope you are a regular on this forum.

Let me give you credit for your use of american idiom "right up my alley" (unless the same expression shows up in Danish too). It was very apt.

Nice pictures, Soe. Good to see you're still keeping the European ratsnakes. Hope to see you on this forum again.

Hi Terry
I cannot imagine, that I will ever stop keeping the European snakes. They have been a part of my life for more than 20 years, and some I have in 8-9 generations. All the pics there are some old ones, so I will make some new better ones, when everything comes out of hibernation. I think I have something that could be interesting for you to see like my blotched/striped situlas (Both in one snake)that originates from animals from Peleponnes Greece. It took me many years and 5 generations from wc to get them amongst the juveniles from a blotched/striped male.
I am actually not the Dane with most different Zamenis localities any more. A friend of mine has collected a lot of nice stuff from breeders, and especially his collection of longissima is very interesting.
I have enlarged my collection with more asian ratsnakes and some Thamnophis, and with more than 300 reptiles, I have enough to care about........Hehe I stilll get tempted
Best wishes

Soe, I always love to see the situlas, especially the localities. Would love to see the spotted/striped male. Sounds like interesting genetics there.

I also like to see the other European/Eurasian ratsnakes. Longissimus has some interesting locales also, as do the others. Maybe you can get pics of some of your friend's snakes too, someday.

Good to hear from you. Hey, and good luck trying to keep up with 300+ snakes.

Best to you and your family...

Terry
