Big Enough?

kta Jan 21, 2005 04:52 PM

I have a california kingsnake (desert phase), whos approximately 7-8 months old. I currently have him in an enclosure which measures 13inches long x 8inches wide x 6inches high. This enclosure sits in my big vivarium which measures 40inches long x 20inches wide x 23inches high. The snake is now too long to stretch out fully in his smaller enclosure, id say he's the length of the enclosure plus about a quarter or half. Is it now time for him to move to the vivarium, or is he still too small / young?

your input would be appreciated!

Why not? As long as he can not escape out of the larger cage.

so he wont feel too insecure in the larger cage?

As long as you offer him several hideboxes in which he can feel contact on all sides, (so he doesn't worry about something scary being in there with him) and maybe while he's little offer him some fake foliage outside the hideboxes he can crawl in for half-cover, he should be okay.

By what you are saying he is about 19 to 20 ins. long. I think he should be fine. I agree give him a hide on both ends of the cage.
