Crickets: gutloading & all around diet

BlazedBetty Jan 21, 2005 05:43 PM

I keep crickets by the dozens & have recently learned that they turn black & die so quickly because of the high calcium diet they are fed on a regular basis (I basically keep them "gutloaded". So now knowing that, and knowing it only stays in their system for a very short period of time if they do manage to live, I'm not sure what to feed them on a regular basis. I feed them a mixture of kitty food, puppy food, rice baby cereal, wheat germ, dried egg yolk, fish flakes and a few different veggies. Is this too much calcium? I'm assuming so. So what should I feed them daily, and what should I feed them during gutloading? (I also put calcium in their food)

I feed mine mouse/rat pellets that have been pulverized in a blender. It has worked well for me for a number of years.
