Help With Understanding Genetics

msubigdawg Jan 21, 2005 06:26 PM

I am in college and I am taking Genetics right now. I have to write a paper on anything to do with Genetics. I would love to write it on the genes it takes to make different morphs and color patterns in snakes. Things like how you decided what you will get when breeding and what genes are responsible for a certain pattern or color. If anyone could email me at msubigdawg@msn.com any information you have. I could really use some websites or some reference to a journal or something where I could find information for my paper that would be great.
Thank you

Reptile and amphibian variants : colors, patterns, and scales, by H. Bernard Bechtel.

This book has bibliographies at the end of each chapter. Recommended because Bechtel has much of the published work on snake genetics in those biblios.

If you can't find the RaAV book, here are some published reports:

Bechtel did a paper on rat snakes in the Journal of Heredity in 1985 and one on corn snakes in JoH in 1989.

Richard Zweifel did one on California kings in JoH in 1982, I think.

Good luck.
