Tanimbar BTS

sams43 Jan 21, 2005 09:01 PM

i am looking into getting a bts and i am deciding between a IJ or a Tanimbar. i have heard that tanimbar's can be agressive, is this true? they are beautiful skinks and i would love to have a tanimbar but i do not want an aggresive skink. if it turns out they are i am going with an IJ.

so i have 2 questions: Are Tanimbar's agressive and about how much do they run for?

I own a tanimbar and have a huge passion for the species. If you are looking for a sweet skink, get an Ij, but if you are willing to put in a lot of time tanimbars can be tamed. Mine took about 30 minutes a day, everyday, and now hes fairly tame, just a little huffy and puffy.

Irian Jayas are more consistantly tame. Tanimbars are not quite as commonly imported lately. Some of the Tanimbars can be really nice looking though smaller than most Bt's. Go onto Bluetonguekinks.net and check out the classifieds. Theres a guy there selling captive bred babies. Tanimbars use to be fairly inexpensive but prices are now close to $100 and Irian Jayas have come down in price a bit.

Tanimbars also grow incredibly slow, and just keep in mind that most will always retain a little bit of their "wild" nature. I have two though, and love them. It's incredible how glossy they are...

thank you all for all your help. Tanimbars are i think the best looking blue tongue. i am going to research into them a little bit more and will probably buy one here in the near future. it will take a lil time but i think it will be worth it. thanks again
