Crestie Cage Setup....

sunshineherps13 Jan 21, 2005 09:37 PM

I have a 20 gallon long and you guys said i need a 20 gal. tall. Well i started thinking maybe i could turn my aquarium sideways and turn it into a tall aquarium. Do you know what i'm saying? I could build a screen for the front of it. I saw someone on here with a cage like that. Would it work?

yeah it would work. as i was reading your post, i was going to recommend the very same thing. go for it.

the only thing i would suggest is put a little " rim" inside of the cage along the bottom so substrate and water don't come out. you can use a clear silicone to seal a piece of plexiglass or wood or whatever you want to use.
silicone can be purchased at wal-mart or just about any hardware store and can be applied using a regular caulk gun. be sure to air out the enclosure for a couple hours after application. after it dries it is completely harmless.

....that's not really a very good idea. I used to have mine in a 10 gal standing upright like ur saying (when they were younger) it's was ok for awhile.....but as they got older, they really didn't have enought floor space to move around.

.....a 20gal. long tank stood upright would give you a 12"x 12" square floor space.....in my opinion, that's hardly enough room for an adult cresty, sorry.

i disagree. i don't believe they need much if any floor space. they need surface area, which if you flip the cage up on it's side, it's still got the exact amount of surface area that is useful for an arboreal gecko.

So i should go for it? I was thinking of putting a patho plant in there with a pvc pipe. I dont really know how i would put a light for night time in there though.

Carlos_n_Paco Jan 23, 2005 12:45 PM

.....and by putting a plant in there, you're taking up even more floor space.....no?

exactly, but it's an ARBOREAL ( yes, that means tree climbing) gecko.
