Quarantine Question

toshamc Jan 21, 2005 10:13 PM

I have my quarantine set up for the snakes I am getting in but had a question. I have them in sterilites with white craft paper for substrate. At what point (assuming I don't see any ticks or mites) can I put down some bedding?

I plan on quarantining (is that a word) them for 3 months in seperate areas of the house grouped by breeders. I figure if they are being shipped together then if one of them is sick, they both will get sick, but this way they are the only ones getting sick. After 3 months I'll put them in racks. Does this sound like a good plan?

Sounds alright to me, you also might want to consider having a fecal test for internal parasites done, while they are in quarantine. Or treat them with panacur (blanket treatment) anyway, or check with the person you are buying them from to see if they have already been treated. That way you will avoid speading internal parasites as well. Leave them on paper until you transfer them to their permanent home, just to be safe.
