A Belgian chopper pilot called Remy Van Lierde took the photo during a patrol over the Republic of Congo in 1959. The snake he witnessed has been estimated to be anywhere from around 40-50 feet long. It was possible to estimate the size of the snake because of the many features on the ground in the images taken. It was described by the pilot as a dark shade of brown and green with a white coloured belly. The jaws were of triangular shape. The pilot claimed the head was a massive 3 feet wide adding that as he cautiously moved in lower for a closer inspection the snake raised itself in the air as high as maybe 10 feet, looking like it may attack the helicopter. After much expert analysis the images taken of this 'Giant Congo Snake' were deemed to be genuine.

there was a story about them in the KS reptiles in the news section. Apparantly this central african native came through a dryer and ate an entire family. Nobody knoew how it managed to get to the states since they are illegal to own.

What species would this be? A three foot wide head? It may just be the largest snake ever, but I think a bit of exaggeration may be at hand as well.

I am pretty sure it is a joke. There are no large pythons native to central africa and there is no congo python.

Had I encountered this critter, I would have had to quickly decide to kill it, for proof, or keep my mouth shut.
` A giant snake existing in the Congo wouldn't have to be in sub family Pythonidae, or any other type of Boid. It could be a living fossil.
` Seeing those tracks, twenty years ago, made me much more open minded.

Ok so i got big feet but i dont smell that bad conda crap is way werse and u was gunna shoot me thanks. i now no not to trust rich in the woods with a gun he might shoot ya if u got big feet.

Does anyone know of someone trying to breed the largest snake? Also, did you take pictures of the tracks?
