My beardie laid EGGS!!

TheDrew1 Jan 22, 2005 01:27 AM

Yay! i never thought it would happen but it did and now i have a small clutch of eggs. Im pretty sure theyre fertile, theyre pretty white. Also what will happen if i accidentally rotated one of the eggs when i dug them up, will it not hatch? Also everyone says 82 degrees is good but is 80 alright because i only have one incubator and i have a clutch of veiled eggs in there and the highest i can put them at is 80 and i was wondering if that would be fine?

Thanks for any advice

Alright, sorry if I rant a little here:

Has the female been with a male in the past few months? If not, they may not be fertile. How old is she? Make sure you soak her really good and give her as MUCH as she can eat loaded with calcium. Rotated eggs does not mean automatic demise, but it is possible it may not hatch. Usually if it is rotated early on it isnt a big deal. 80 can work for the temperature, but it will take much longer than 60-70 days for them to hatch.

Make sure you are prepared if these eggs are indeed fertile. Babies are a hassle, and cost a lot of money. I usually just break even with my babies, and I have several high color breeding pairs. It will most likely cost you more time, effort, and money then it is worth. You will not make money (again, Im not sure what your intent was but I'm just saying theoretically). And the female, if indeed she was bred and these eggs are fertile, will most likely have more clutches of eggs and more babies. I wont get into the hassle and everything, just forewarning you. If you are not ready for the commitment or dont have the time, effort, money, or space to put up with all the babies (several clutches of eggs), then I suggest getting rid of the eggs by slicing them open. You say you have veiled eggs, the are much more work then the veiled babies (from experience) and cost MUCH more. Babies can eat thousands and thousands of crickets a week. I went through 10,000 for one clutch in a week.

Good luck in whatever you choose!
