When introducing a female to the male is gentle nipping normal???

Gilbery007 Jan 22, 2005 06:20 AM

Hi all, I put my male in with my female again today and witnessed the male gently nipping the female on her neck and tail?is this normal? As it's my first time breeding im a bit weary of my male biting her tail incase she drops it and obviously i dont know what normal breeding behaviour looks like. Should i leave her in there over night with him or maybe for longer??? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thankyou Gilbery007

It is normal for breeding to be a bit of a rough process. Quite often the females can come out with small cuts on their back and head. Keep an eye on your leos to make sure she doesnt suffer any great damage, but grasping witht he mouth and even small bites are normal. When you seperate them after breeding, apply a small amount of triple antibiotic ointment to her cuts for a few days and they should heal fine

check this out, when i got my baby halo he was about 3 inch i put him with dixie she was at6 inch she did not like him in her area at all she stalked him waving her tail bit him on the side, tail and even the head. when she got his head she nipped him pretty good so i took him out and put him in my 10 gal if they wanted 2 a grown leo could tear into another gecko easy.u just have to watch closely.u can tell there true intentions.maybe i can re introduce halo 2 dixie in about 3-4 months and hope fully they will forgive eachother.u should b ok with the male nippeng and holding on to youre femal.it takes a little bit of persistance 4 a leo to take off anothers tail baby's wl drop easy though. i no that much 4 reading so much about them. just type in leo gecko breeding and read as much as u can abut it.

For triple anti-biotic ointment just use the same stuff you would have if you had a cut, neosporin works well.

I am not so sure about how long to leave them together, it has been a long time since i bred leo's, and rather than give you inacurate advice i will wait and let someone else fill you in.
