Question for anyone else who uses carpet....

AlteredMind99 Jan 22, 2005 10:09 AM

I recently switch my beardie onto carpeting. I like it a lot because its so much easie to clean and i dont have to worry about her getting imapcted. I have several pieces cut to size so i can rotate and clean them. But my question is about cleaning, when she poops i throw away the big lumps and them scrub out the rest, but the odor still lingers. I dont want to put smelly carpet back into her cage. How do other people get rid of the odor in the carpet? I was thinking about running it through a cycle in the washing machine to really get it soaked and drained, would that be ok?

When I washed my carpet the first, and only time, It came out as a mess. It wasn't very cool. My cage is partialy carpet, on the cooler side with the wood and water, and sand on the hotter side, with the basking spot. My beardie never poops on the eating area, I just washed it as an experiment to see what would happen. It was horrible. So any suggestions will help me out alot too. Thanks! Oh and sorry if I didn't answer your question o_O

I had the same problem. I got tired of it and switched to non adhesive shelf liner. It works fantastic!

It is Duck brand in like 6 foot rolls. You use it in your cabinet shelves. You have to get the kind that doesn't have the little holes. I got mine at Walmart for about $5 a roll.

I use the carpets and I have always taken them outside and scrubbed them with Nolvasan scrub (or an antibacterial soap) and then left them out in the sun for the day. Usually I don't have a problem with a smell until they start to fall apart on the rubber backing side.

Hope it helps,
Shannon
